Happy New Year!
We did something a little bit different for our New Year's celebration this year. We decided to make some foods that are often served for the Chinese New Year that bring good luck. We made up a big feast of potstickers, longevity noodles, lion's head meatballs, and New Year's Rice Cake. Kai, who is typically a very picky eater and who hates everything I make, gobbled this dinner right up. We gave him a glass of sparkling pear cider and kept making toasts. We did a countdown to the New Year at 9 pm, and then made lots of jokes about "last year." Jevon said "those dishes have been sitting there since last year." "I haven't eaten anything since last year." You get the picture. We were all laughing and having a good time (a big switch from the tearful days leading up to Christmas--what anticipation will do to a child!) Kai and I also drew chinese dragons and then he dressed up as a dragon using some playsilks he got for Christmas and some colored nylons that my mom sent (what a great gift).
Poor sleepy Tea missed most of the celebration!
Here' s a few photos from New Year's and the days preceding. The kids have been dressing up a lot. Tea always has to be wearing her baby. So sweet!
